Crazy Toned Morgan Dollars (ft. Colby Abele)
I really enjoyed speaking with coin dealer Colby Abele from Valley Coins about toned Morgan Dollars at Witter Coin University. We talk about their values, how they are formed, the different color patterns, what is attractive and what isn’t, artificial toning, and more. I hope you enjoy and learn as much as I did!
Morgan Dollars were made from 1878 to 1904 and again in 1921, and are the coin type that remain one of the most iconic coins in U.S. coin collecting history. I’d recommend that each citizen owns one of these – the premiums aren’t too far over the 90% silver content, and there is so much history, depth, and possible sources of additional value to be found within the series. It is a great start to a coin collection and has been the primary focus of many collectors going back over a century.
